young the giant francois

We had finished packing up the entire apartment, and it was unsettling to see it all empty. Bob Dylan was playing on eric’s mac, while françois smoked his cigarette. We sat in that room for fifteen minutes without speaking, just remembering the times in that place. I might not have lived there, but the days that I spent there were definitely memorable ones.

This past week I was in the recording studio with Young The Giant. They were recording their new album with Joe Chiccarelli in LA, so I made my way to the studio to document the whole thing. It was a great experience, and good times were had. You can see the photos on my website under in the studio.

Chloe Scheffe created an absolutely stunning stop motion about typography. I am normally not a big fan of stop motions, but this one was absolutely brilliant. Both the composition and execution of displaying each letter was perfect.

brothers at sea

A while back I did promos for a local band back home known as “Brothers At Sea”. They just released their new EP, which is being featured on pure volume along with my photos. Check it out.

"Ujin Lee"

Ujin Lee created an incredible series that is focused around dust. It seems as if he just takes dust and throws it or makes it burst to create incredible shapes and designs. The simplicity of the photos are outstanding, and the dust just adds another layer to the photo that isn’t seen too often.

Quite possibly one of the most heart-wrenching videos I have ever seen in my entire life, but it’s absolutely beautiful. Prepare yourself by having a box of tissues nearby. no joke. Also, it was made with a 5d mark II. I am constantly amazed by what people do with that camera. If anyone would like to buy prints or do a shoot send me an e-mail. Then maybe I can buy myself a 5d mark II!

I’m back home and have been a busy little photographer. This past weekend I went up to LA to shoot The Jake’s show at cinespace, and then do photos at their place. It was an eventful day, and I think within those 2 days I lost at least 10% of my hearing. Tomorrow I am shooting Brothers At Sea, a band located out of Mission Viejo, CA. Definitely should be a good shoot. I can’t believe that Christmas is in six days.

franblog

Life has been a bit busy as of late, hence the lack of updates. A couple of weeks ago I did a shoot for my friend Jon’s recording studio- The Music Box, which went well and involved a birthday dinner afterward.

I haven’t had much time to pick up my camera in these past few weeks because I’ve been busy with school and finals. Luckily I have a couple of shoots planned in the next month and a half, so that will be fun and I’ll be adventuring up to a secret location with my best friend, kristin. She has no idea where we are going so it’ll be fun.

I’m leaving for home on saturday, so you shall be hearing from me when I return!

ugh sickness.

I’ve had this stupid cold for almost a week now, and I’m slowly getting better. My past week has been completely uneventful. It’s consisted of drinking water, taking medicine, and laying/sitting in bed while watching dexter, heroes, fringe, and flashforward. I was hoping I would have photos to edit to keep me busy, but I didn’t. Even though I’ve been sick this week has been nice for personal reasons.

It’s been raining today, which is kind of nice. Makes it feel a bit more like fall. California never really sees a huge change when it comes to summer vs fall. I remember in high school we had trees that would actually lose their leaves, and every so often there would be a huge pile of leaves on campus and people would jump in them, which would then cause them all to scatter. Only thing that was missing was the cold… it never got all too cold. Lowest would be like 40-50. Definitely not cold.

Finally, if you would like to see some awesome photography, I helped Kristin launch a brand new website, which you can see here: http://www.kristinmanson.com

Go check it out, you won’t regret it.

What a weekend… I finally went and saw Where The Wild Things Are on Saturday and loved it.

Then on Sunday, Jared and I drove up the coast to Petaluma, Bodega Bay, and Point Reyes. I was absolutely exhausted all day, but it was totally worth it.
